FINE ART BY ROBERT FRANCIS

Welcome to my blog.

I started in art at age 12 in 1960 and in plein air earnestly in 2013 after retirement.  Since then I have done an oil painting a day in order to progress just as I surfed every day for the love not money or fame.

At age 12 Granny took me to see the Pageant of the Masters, Laguna Beach, Ca.  The next week end I was in Santa Ana buying my first easel.  I have painted continuously for the 60 years and have found a real home in plein air art these last seven years.  I did plein air work prior to this time period but had no idea about the full history and the many influences it has had over the centuries.  Visits to see Sorolla and Monet paintings in person in San Diego at the Museums when the shows came to us where staggering to say the least and had great influence on my approach to the medium of oil painting.

Equally of influence has been my participation in LPAPA or Laguna Plein Air Painter's Association and the give and take with great artists on a personal and instructional level.

Kathleen Dunphy, Jim McVicker, Rick Delanty, Craig Nelson, and Marc Delassio have all had dramatic effect on my ability and understanding through workshops and modern media.

I hope you enjoy the art here and may have any questions answered by commenting here.
